Violins announce the epically impressive “Alpenglow”—an energetic song…almost frantic…where one can close their eyes and see a brigade of armies dashing through the countryside on horseback riding into battle while the townspeople clank steins in exalted anticipation of the ensuing skirmish. It’s just that vivid! Pure power! Opening track “Shudder Before the Beautiful” is supported by the strains of a Symphonic orchestra and is another “dashing” number…fast-paced and enthralling. “Weak Fantasy” and “Yours Is An Empty Hope” follow along in the same manner…strong riffs and powerhouse vocals that are an effortless blending that deliver solid songs. “Edema Ruh” is a pleasant song with soulful singing and a memorable guitar melody. “The Greatest Show on Earth” is an epic track…over 23 minutes of music framed with modern Symphonic elements, and is both ambitious and dramatic. This is melodic track with many different vibes, a true showcase of this band’s musicianship. Titled track “Endless Forms Most Beautiful” brings many change-ups in pace, and opens the CD with a flavor of what the listener should expect—a well-produced and solid CD. Vocalist FLOOR JANSEN really delivers in this CD. She can be compared to her predecessors as the perfect blending of the two. She “connects” with this album, with the right elements of both rich vocals and the pipes to support the songs. NIGHTWISH again proves with its new album their world class Symphonic abilities. I could listen to this album repeatedly and with each time, hear new elements—its compositions are complex and layered. If you love female-fronted groups, then these Finnish Metallers should be on the top of your “Wish List”! www.nightwish.com/en/ www.facebook.com/nightwish www.nuclearblast.de/en/
