Meanwhile--back at the compound…. With war paint applied and with musical weapons of mass destruction loaded on to the rental truck…we “caravanned” it to Joe’s Grotto. To say that St. Madness does not disappoint would be an understatement. They stormed the stage at Joe’s Grotto and held the crowd hostage in rapt attention. Their sound ran the gamut from a Southern Rock, swampy flavor to hard-driving Thrash. And the repertoire varied from their Metal anthem “Metal to the Death and Beyond (MDB)” to their amazeballs cover of JOHNNY CASH’S “Folsom Prison Blues”--accentuated by the dosey doe-ing mosh pit--a study in contrast as unique as St. Madness themselves. The audience swelled and thrust forward (excuse me, I think I need a cigarette), horns raised, heads bobbing like a single life force--many lip-synching each and every word. And all the while, Loki Toki, The Arizona Ink Demon Gene, Dr. Blakemore and the coquettishly coy Kim, worked the fans into a frenzy of biblical (sorry) proportions. Throughout the night, this madcap crew and creep show cronies delivered the audience with a devious delve into “Blood, Guts, and Glory”. With my wings ever so slightly a-wiltin’--but with my spirit buoyed with its metallic-infusion--I posed for pics with my new-found friends. And, once again, JB steered the Altima back to our sleepy retirement community of Leisure World in Mesa. Back to life, back to reality. And as I crawled into bed, fairy garb forsaken, I leaned over to JB and whispered “Goodnight sweetie.” Then I inched a little closer to his face--and growled “METAL TO THE DEATH AND BEYOND!” He didn’t miss a beat and sleepily retorted, “MDB.” http://www.reverbnation.com/stmadness https://www.facebook.com/pages/ST-MADNESS/58739248731
