Now, here comes a show that I had no interest in covering…but if it hadn't been for the opening act--which is a local who are promoting this show on Facebook as if it were the last show they were doing--I would not have taken notice at all. Hence, I found myself on June 3 rd , at Tricky Falls here in El Paso, Texas, taking in the show with ANDROMEDA THEORY serving as the supporting act for DED. Now let me share some details of that evening…Ded is a Nu-Metal band out of Tempe, Arizona; a band on the rise, and that’s an understatement. These guys just did CAROLINA REBELLION and ROCK ON THE RANGE--with ROCKLAHOMA and CHIGACO OPEN AIR in their sights. They have played to thousands of people just over the past weeks and let’s not forget, their album hasn’t even been released yet (it's due out on July 14th). But what they do have is their single out on radio, which is entitled “Anti-Everything”. Now let's get back to the evening in question…yes, this show is at Tricky Falls…but it’s upstairs at The Perch, which is a small bar accompanied with a small stage. Needless to say, I am somewhat disappointed in the fact that they’ll be playing to no one and it’s upstairs, but as the evening wore on, all that changed as my disappointment was replaced with the thrill of the unique intimacy of the show. Ok, let’s start with Andromeda Theory (pictured left). I‘ve known these guys for a couple of years and they have been featured in ION Indie Magazine in the past. They have not taken their foot off the gas and are gaining steam touring, producing videos and releasing new music. In fact, the day before the show, they released their newest single “Face to Face”, which I heard for the first time--and it was fantastic! This band is like a fine wine, getting better with time. Now mind you, by the time Ded hit the stage, maybe 25 people were in attendance, but before they went on, I had the opportunity to speak to JOE COTELA, the front man for Ded. Of course, I asked him what he thought of playing last week to 8 thousand people--then playing here to 25 people. His answer was as I expected, “We play the same show regardless and truth be told, we dig the smaller shows simply because we connect with the people in attendance. We only have the one single out and when we play it, the crowd just goes crazy. Can you imagine when our debut album comes out next month? It’s very exciting!”
