Franz: Not so much here. Not say like you hear
about in Florida and the upper east coast, where
you have to buy your tickets and have to
guarantee your own fan base.
JP: Where else does someone go to work and not
get paid for doing their job?
Franz: You know that is a very good question. I
don’t have an answer for that.
Neal: It’s like climbing that ladder. You have to
take it each step at a time.
Franz: I wanted to tell you about a company I
started called WWTS (We Wrote That Shit). There
are no promoters involved. It is bands playing
with bands because we like the way each of us
sound. We can cut out all of the politics and all of
that nepotism and the “better than thou”
mindset that has divided this scene. The music
should be more important than the politics.
JP: So what sells today, do you think it’s the music
or is it gimmicks?
Franz: I’d like to think it’s music.
Mitch: Depends on who you’re talking to.
Franz: I stand by, I think it’s still the music. You
have a conglomerate out there that is telling
people what to buy, what to like, what sells,
what’s popular, what’s trendy.
JP: And if you don’t fit that format?
Franz: You don’t get that shot.
JP: Don’t bands now make their living on the road?
Franz: THE CHIMPS...The Chimps are out there getting it. This is like their second, maybe third headlining tour. They’ve made
this their job, their commitment, their lifestyle.
Neal: They have told us, they like being on this side of the country. They don’t have to deal with that “pay to play” thing. They
don’t have to deal with the club taking all of the money at the end of the night after playing their heart out. I could see that.
JP: Music, everyone has to have a favorite song of your own, something you play. What’s your favorite?
Franz: Right now, my favorite song is “Warhorse”.
JP: Why?
