Now here's a local act that at first I thought, "Oh, boy, here we go again!" But after the first time I saw them, I was pleasantly
surprised! With that said, I bring you STAN Z--two guys that are the same age, 18 years old, and I feel have a very bright
future ahead of them. The act consists of STAN Z and IDEA--and their DJ is BOOMKAT. Stan Z and Idea have known each other
for the past 5 years and have been making music during that time, but only playing as an act for the past nine months. The
brand of music they play is "Experimental Hip Hop", and to be honest, I had never seen such an act as this--as in Stan Z can
actually sing and play the guitar. What caught my attention is the gimmick: They incorporate Rock and Hip Hop, but it has
more of a Hip Hop flavor to it. Influences are BIGGIE SMALLS, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, LED ZEPPELIN, GURU and
GANGSTAR...now there's a mix for ya!
Stan Z put out his own mixed tape three months ago, doing this in his own recording studio. Due to this release, he has gotten
more popular and booked 10 more shows, which are followed by a devoted high school crowd. Idea plans to do the same in
the upcoming months. A tour is in the works this summer for Texas and New Mexico, and I am sure they will have a huge
success with that.
This is one of the local acts that actually has a manager by the name of EDWARD RAYMOND, which I find very impressive for
such a young group. This last time I saw them, I did pay more attention to them, as well as the audience…and when Stan Z
picked up his guitar to play at the end of a particular song, the crowd started to scream with joy, especially the young girls. I
truly feel these guys are going places. They have raw talent, the ambition to move forward and a huge following--which is a big
plus! It has been my sheer pleasure to sit down with these guys, attend their shows and write this review. It should be fun to
watch this budding act flower and mature! Stan Z gets a thumbs up from me!
