Besides Panick, the Razorhouse “wrecking crew” is compiled of: TOMMY ZENDER (guitar), DAVID SUYCOTT
(drums) and JOHN ABBEY (bass). Another notable element to the Razorhouse equation, is HOWIE BENO, the
Grammy-nominated engineer and producer and studio musician for Razorhouse. According to Panick, “Howie’s
contribution to Razorhouse is big--he plays bass and keys on 90% of the material to the degree that I give him
co-writing credits. On top of co-production and mixing AND mastering. DANNY MCGUINNESS (HEATSHIELD
RECORDS’ owner) is the other producer and has played some bass bits as well. I'd have Howie play bass live if
I could…NYC shows he will.”
Of the songwriting process, Panick shares his personal take “You start encoding your daydreams and ideas into
music and like ill-tempered children, they bully each other into a pecking order of sort. So the songs decide
themselves in the end.” Hmmm, that sounds suspiciously like any given Saturday night of my youth when left
alone with my older sister—no songs resulted from those beat-downs—but I digress…
Recently, Razorhouse was notified that they were an official selection of the “Chicago International Movies and
Music Festival 2014” for their video “Dedicated Love” (which I find deliciously dark and disturbing). Buoyed by
that honor and the release of their Codex EPs, Razorhouse looks ahead to their upcoming tour.
A true Renaissance dude, Panick multi-tasks by trying to balance his new interest in yoga with occasional bouts
of whiskey-induced arguments with the local ice cream man over his poor choice of tape loop. I am so relieved
to know that I am not the only one who does that!
In his usual wry manner, Panick closes, “I see the idea behind Razorhouse as a nomadic tribe with the music
being the ministry of propaganda. I've been doing the same thing forever--I'm building forts with other fun kids.”
