Kat Zee: Do you have other music projects, or is your focus on Luna Lacuna?
Luna Lacuna: Our drummer, JAMES FEIST, is also the guitarist in DEAD PUPPY and our bassist has a solo project under DAVE HERITAGE. The lead guitarist, HARRY HOOD, has the other bands— FUNKY MOTHERFUCKERS and INTERSTELLAR NOISE DRIVE. The singer / second guitarist, ABIGAIL ZIERING, has IIXII and DYBBUK, with partner VARGR I VEUM( aka MATTHEW LEWIS), and has done a guest vocal for TIM HOLEHOUSE. She is also working on vocals for a project TBA with a proper goth / post-punk legend.
Kat Zee: What is the best feedback that you have ever received regarding your music?
Luna Lacuna: Honestly, all the kind words from people in the audience and the other acts we play with mean the world to us! LIVEAMP reviewed us as“ Authentic and exemplifies how genre bending musicians are really breaking down the walls of traditional sound”... and LUKE from BOO! ZINE said, " In a 2015 Wicker Man remake( sans Nic Cage) the pagan islanders would be dancing to Luna Lacuna. As for me? I need three copies--one in the car for driving through the night, one for when I’ m drunk at home and one on my phone for walking through town, headphones in, blotting out external sounds with the dark intelligence, haunting vocals and howling guitars that this thrusts upon you." We’ ve been blown away by the support from ANDY COUSIN( from THE MISSION, ALL ABOUT EVE, etc.) and LISA JANE MYERS-- who often play us on their show via DEAL RADIO and have been really lovely in general.
Kat Zee: Have you ever played a concert in an unusual place?
Luna Lacuna: Our VERY local venue, POCO LOCO on Chatham High Street, is most unusual in that it’ s an odd little Mexican style bar / venue frequented by an amiable and colourful trainwreck of regulars and revelers--but so amazingly supportive of live music, that on most nights you might find a band or solo artist having their first gig, a well known touring act, or anything in between... anything at all! it gets weird but invariably wonderful!
Kat Zee: From where does the interesting name of your band, Luna Lacuna, originate? Is there any particular history connected with it?
Luna Lacuna: Luna Lacuna roughly and literally translated from Latin is“ Moon Hole”--which pleases us immensely--as the maturity of humor amongst band members is about the level of a 15 year old boy! The name ' s more complex meaning befitted the original solo project, coming from the founding member ' s darker days:“ of or influenced by the moon” and“ an emptiness or depression, nothingness, an unfilled space”. Further connotations are“ a missing passage in text; i. e., reading between the lines” and“ an extended silence in a piece of music”.
Kat Zee: What plans do Luna Lacuna have in the future? Are you working on any new music?
Luna Lacuna: Most of the latest tracks were pretty much written while being recorded and we have new ones, so we will be doing an album early in 2017. Our drummer has recently opened THE FORT STUDIO-- so it’ s much easier for us to work on new material now!
