ION INDIE MAGAZINE January 2017, Volume 32 | Page 67
It was an exceptional evening of music—and ION Indie Magazine was on hand to witness (and hear) three
incredible performers—MALCOLM BRUCE (son of the legendary JACK BRUCE/CREAM), MIKEAL ANTHONY—
a talented artist hailing from Philadelphia, but now based in Atlanta, and KAZ HAWKINS—the
multidimensional Northern Ireland singer-songwriter—whom we were following along while chronicling her
U.S. Tour. Myself and Senior Photojournalist JB BRIDGES were treated to a variety of music…from the
eclectic sounds with rock elements delivered unto us by Mr. Bruce and his soulful guitar—to the passionate
and thoughtful selections performed by Mikeal Anthony—and of course, there was the always captivating
sizzle and sass of songstress Kaz Hawkins (you’ll be hearing a LOT more
from this Belfast Belle in the February issue of ION)—well, it just doesn’t
get any better than this rousing roster that served up a very tall wall of
sound to the riveted audience in attendance.
Our host for the evening was DAMIEN MANCINI (pictured left with Kaz
Hawkins), the warm and welcoming proprietor of THE SNUG GASTRO
PUB (www.thesnuggastropub.com), located in the historic downtown
district of beautiful Canton, Georgia. Accompanying us was LUCY
PILLER of ARN ENTERTAINMENT (www.allrightnow.com), who just
happens to have the supreme pleasure of working with both Mikeal and
Kaz (nice score there, Lucy!). Lucy graciously made the arrangements
for ION to be, not only in the house, but backstage in the artists’ green
room before the show—allowing us an “up close and personal” peek
into all the behind the scenes preparations with Kaz Hawkins—also
enjoying a pre-show dinner with friends and colleagues.
