Story and Photography by Timothy Schumann
On December 8, 2015, here in El Paso, I had just the best time covering MY LIFE WITH THE THRILL KILL KULT at the one
and only TRICKY FALLS. Now, I had heard of this band for years--knew they put on a great show--but really not much
more… which to be honest, just added to the excitement of photographing the show.
I did get to meet BUZZ MCCOY and FRANKIE NARDIELLO (aka GROOVIE MANN)--who have been the core of the band since
day one, which was 28 years ago (1987). Both were very friendly, I might add, and to honest, I don't get that much from
bands that have been around that long on the scene. They have put out 11 albums and been through 19 past members
during this period of time.
The type of music they play is "Electronic Industrial
Rock" with a taste of a "Satanic, Sleazy Disco". The
performance from Groovie Mann--hands down, the
seasoned veteran front man--what more could one ask
for, right? I couldn't think of anything more we could
add to the show…other than maybe Jesus tied to the
cross wearing a huge black strap-on dildo and then
have a demon girl come out and perform oral sex on
him, that is. This is the type of show that has gained
this band the type of reputation it has had for years.
They hit the stage at 9:15 sharp and started belting out
epic tunes like "Leathersex", "Witchpunkrockstar",
"Kooler than Jesus" and of course, the crowd favorite,
"Sex on Wheelz". The attendance could have been
better, but the ones that did attend were true TKK
fans--knowing every word to every song and having
the room to do a little dancing…real dancing…not
moshing or a savage circle pit--which for the most
part, I'm used to. I believe all this added to my
enjoyment of this show, not to mention, Groovie
Mann--who puts on a fantastic show--really keeps the
audience entertained. Truth be told, this is what I look
for--a killer front man--and Groovie Mann looks as if he
hasn't missed a lick his entire career… just
outstanding!
As I stated, I knew nothing of this band before the 8th,
but after witnessing this stellar show, they got a brand
new fan. This is one of the perks of shooting for the
ION Indie Magazine, I must say. So please do check
these guys out and I'm sure… that you will become
a fan as well!
