our own education. We’re trying to build our own team. A label kinda builds a team
for you. We’re going to build a team on our own. It kinda feels good to not give away
that part of--that percentage of your record--if you can find a way to finance it
yourself. The label would take a giant chunk of your record, and then you’re gonna
have recoupable money for the next two years and hopefully, if you can pay all that
back, you can make some money before the next record. If not, then the debt just
keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger.
JP: You guys have been true “road warriors” in 2015. Is there a favorite city that
you’ve visited?
DK: Philadelphia was good one. I like Philly because it seems like we always have
a day off while we’re there, so we kinda get to explore a little bit.
JP: What venue did you play when you were in Philly?
DK: We played XFINITY LIVE. We did an amphitheater there…I guess technically
it’s in Camden (NJ)…on the river.
JP: SUSQUEHANNA BANK AMPHITHEATRE.
DK: Yep, that’s the one.
JP: I understand you are getting ready to hit the studio in 2016, who will you be
recording with?
DK: We’re talking with JOHNNY K. That’s who we hope to lock down for it. He
seems interested. He’s done a bunch of records. His latest record is SAINT
ASONIA’S record. We toured with them and SEETHER recently and we talked with
them. We reached out to him and he seemed pretty excited about it. He’s not
completely locked in, but it’s pretty close I’d say. I think it’s just a matter of time
‘til we get everybody’s schedule worked out.
JP: You’ve told me who you want to use as your producer. What do you look for in
a producer?
DK: A lot of it is the sound. I liked a lot of the things NICK CHIWALA did on “After
the Crawl”. “After the Crawl” came out a lot different than “Bloodshot Life”. I think
“After the Crawl” had a lot of things to say on a sonic level, but this new one is
going to tell a story. I liked the way that SAINT ASONIA record sounded. We want
the sound to be great, but we want the story to be told, like the way we want it to
be told. We want it to speak through the music.
