You could smell it in the air this past 17th of December as the KOTTONMOUTH KINGS
brought their "X-Mas Jingle Bowls Tour" with supporting National acts CHUCKY CHUCK
and MARLON ASHER to none other than TRICKY FALLS, here in El Paso, Texas.
I had the opportunity to hang out on the bus before the show with Chucky Chuck, Marlon
Asher and DADDY X of KMKs--I must say that they treated me as if they had known me all
of our lives…just a great bunch of guys! Now, what did happen was, I had Mr. COLT
DEMORRIS with me--he is the Director of the West Texas Chapter of NORMAL--so when
that fact was known, an informal interview was conducted. Needless to say, the subject
was on the legalization of Marijuana--and our boys had lots to say! To me, it was a real
treat!
Kottonmouth Kings have been around 21 years--straight out of Orange County, California-with 13 films and 20 albums under their belt. In ‘06, they headlined the CANNABIS CUP
and were named the "Band of the Year" by HIGH TIMES MAGAZINE. I guess you could label
their music as Psychedelic, Hip Hop, Punk Rock, with a serious marijuana spin on
everything--especially with song titles such as "Where's the Weed At?", "Put the Pipe
Down" and "Hold It In".
The stage was decorated with plastic pot plants wrapped in Christmas lights and a back
drop photo of a marijuana grow, and let’s not forget the fact that everyone is smoking
weed on stage--and in Texas! Chucky Chuck and Marlon Asher (GANGA FARMER) put on
fantastic performances, as I figured they would after getting to know them a bit before
the show. KMK hit the stage at 9:40 and Daddy X, DIRTBALL and D-LOC appeared to be
having the time of their lives entertaining the audience of 200. Even though the number
was low, the people who did attend were true KMK fans. From my observation, everybody
was having a fantastic time (as well as myself)!
In closing, if you're a fan of this type of music, the Kottonmouth Kings are the real deal-and if you get the chance to hang out with them, I know without a doubt, we'll be in
agreement.
