ION INDIE MAGAZINE February 2015, Volume 9 | Page 25

yche Chlanda is an accomplished musician whose life has had many up and downs. This article won’t focus on his past accomplishments and accolades, instead ION Indie Magazine would like to give Ryche a chance to y on his own and bring to light his latest offering, “Ryche Chlanda and Flying Dreams”. This album has a classic feel to it, you can almost smell the vinyl as one track ows into the next. It is one of the rst Prog Rock albums I’ve heard that actually blends virtuosity, artistic integrity and Pop sensibility. The album, while inuenced by Progressive Rock's golden age, is not chained to one particular era. It is a timeless album that resists being dated. “Ryche Chlanda and Flying Dreams” delivers a diverse group of styles and themes within Classic Rock and its many sub-genres, and it also explores many areas sonically. Most pointedly, it perfectly balances elements from Ryche's past with previews of what’s to come. I sat down with Ryche to talk about his latest release. 1. Tell us about your latest record This was a year-long project--it was by far the easiest LP I have ever recorded. What began as a series of individual pieces and vignettes worked its way into full LP--to me, a real record. Ideas were bounced back and forth so easily that the record was joy to record. 2. The new record has a 70's Classic feel to it, yet still feels fresh. What time period has the greatest inuence on your music? Thank you--one cannot help but be inuenced by that era. Artists had to pass muster live in that era before there would be any industry interest in them. There was no other marketing alternative, no internet--so you had great bands playing some great songs. Yes, King Crimson, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Genesis--I'll never forget the rst time I heard a Mellotron on the opening song at a Genesis Concert--or Robert Fripp Using an Ebo sustaining against a beautiful keyboard pad. Those things have changed my Life and inuenced me as a songwriter. 3. Your lyrics and music send a very positive message. Tell us about the power of words and music. Words have power, and combined with powerful or beautiful music and melody, the artist has the ability to alter the listener…whether it be positive or negative.
