Kiki: I'm the Editor-in-Chief of ION Indie Magazine…thank you for taking time with our publication today.
Scotty McCreery: Yep, yep no problem at all.
Kiki: So we're going to jump right into it. I know you've got a busy media day. I'm going to start off with my
first question and that would be the transition from country artist to author. In your mind’s eye Scotty, as
that teenager that stood on that stage of American Idol in 2011, besides being an Idol winner--was author
something you envisioned? Or did that present itself organically in your journey?
Scotty McCreery: That kinda came up organically. I
didn't know what to expect after Idol. I mean, I
didn't even think I'd be on Idol--so everything was
kind of coming my way and I was just, you know,
sitting on the water or by the fire pretty much. So I
didn't exactly know what to expect. But, you know,
obviously I was wanting to tell stories because I
was wanting to sing songs and that's pretty much
what songs are. But this kind of gave me a chance
to expand on those stories--and I jumped at the
opportunity when they presented it to me. But it
really happened organic. I wasn't expecting that to
happen at all.
Kiki: Isn't it funny how life works out that way
sometimes? Where one opportunity kind of folds
into another? Now your book is called “Go Big Or
Go Home: The Journey Toward the Dream”--and it
presents the reader with snapshots of your life as
well as lessons learned. Scotty, you're very young
and God-willing you have a lot of living to do and
many more life lessons to embrace. Will there be a
follow-up to “Go Big or Go Home”?
