FANESHA FABRE
DELICATE PIECE OF MACHINERY
BY JAY PETSKO
Fanesha Fabre's latest offering, “Machina”, is a concept album, containing songs
depicting the complexities of relationships. Her music reminds of Sade, Zero 7, Trip
Hop, My Bloody Valentine…and all that other great music that sounds good after
midnight.
It starts off with “Delicate Piece of Machinery”--a robotic, yet melodic composition that
is as catchy as it is unsettling. From there it ows into “Watch Me Burn”--if you have ever
just "gone through the motions", you will relate to this song.
I enjoyed this album and listened to it all the way through. The songs are sexy, romantic,
bitter and revealing. The album as a whole maintains a consistent vibe; yet each song is
strong on its own. Everything from the composition to the engineering (Sneeky Creeky)
is top notch. If you are a fan of powerful well-composed music with a Trip Hop vibe, this
album should be on your iPhone, computer--or dare I say--home stereo system. Yeah, I
still listen to music out of large speakers in a wooden box.
If there is one message that this album conveys to this listener, it is that relationships are
an evolving animal. For some of us, the evolution can be at times drastic, and other
times, buttery smooth. For those of us who are artists or in relationships with artists, you
know how passionate/chaotic that relationship can be. For those who don’t...Fanesha
Fabre takes that journey for you. I caught up with Fanesha right after listening to her
album, and she was cool enough to answer a few questions...
