JB: At what age did you start singing?
AW: I started getting comfortable singing around 8 or so, but at that time I was doing
nothing more than karaoke at the lake or at family parties. It wasn’t until I was 12 that I
started performing in front of people that weren’t related to me.
JB: When did you know you wanted to become a musician?
AW: I knew I really liked to play music when I was 9 or 10 (the time I started learning
trumpet). I knew I wanted to be a songwriter when I was 13.
JB: What was your first instrument and how did you acquire it? What is your favorite
instrument?
AW: My first instrument was trumpet; I began playing in school in 4th grade and am still
an active participant in my school band. As far as my favorite goes, does my voice
count? If not, I love my trumpet. I can do so many cool things on mine and know it like
the bac k of my hand. Though I love my guitar, I’m still learning all of its ins and outs.
JB: Have you ever had professional voice lessons?
AW: Yes, I have. My vocal coach Tracy Jones is my best and hardest mentor. She
catches every mistake and pushes me to the breaking (or vocal cracking) point. Without
her, I know I wouldn’t be where I am vocally.
