MAGIC GIANT is a band from California that is quickly getting attention for their unique and climatic indie folk. ION
Indie Magazine got to cover them just after Rolling Stone recommended them as a “Band To Watch” and Spotify had
them at #4 of the Viral 50. They also recently had an appearance on the “Today Show.”
Playing in Philly, fresh off of their triumphant appearance at the “Firefly Festival,” many of the people who filled the
smaller venue hadn't heard of them a couple weeks before, but saw them at Firefly and were hooked. It may be the
last time we'll see them so intimately if their success keeps on such an upward trend.
The trio adds a drummer for this tour, and his danceable beats definitely add to the feel. Their live performance is
something quite different than their recent May ‘17 album release "In the Wind." Many tracks of the recording feature
a lot of production -- layers of electronic underpinning that seem to seek for something that isn't quite their sound.
Live, it's a different sound altogether, but finding intensity nonetheless through their very energetic performing.
Listening to their album after the fact left me longing to hear those songs live again.
These guys are having so much fun as they play, as is the audience. Many of their songs build to a triumphant peak,
which consumes the listener. They clearly thrive on audience engagement, seeking participation on their broad
chanting choruses and going out into the crowd to play together. Many fans in the audience were singing not only the
epic built-up shouts, but even the verses -- clearly a strong fan base is underway. Not bad for their first time in this city.
With the passion Magic Giant has for entertaining, getting to know their audience, and writing interesting and catchy
music, this trio is just at the start of something that we'll being hearing more of, no doubt.
