DS: Everything! Even if I don’t know the words. But if it’s a long drive, THE BEATLES…always.
LH: Other than rehearsing and gigs, what is the last thing you all did together?
DS: We got together for a post party recently to thank everyone involved with helping us put on the April 29th
show. We were able to say thank you to everyone that helped and continue bonding; reinvigorating a moment
that was slowly receding.
LH: A talking penguin walks through that door right now wearing a sombrero. What does he say and why is he
here?
DS: He says, “Hola, ¿Quieres relajarte?” which means “Hello, do you want to chill?”…in Spanish, apparently. I
googled it, so it must be true. And he is obviously here to enjoy a frozen margarita.
LH: Here is your chance to get up on your soapbox and speak to the world. What do you have to say?
DS: The one thing I have debated about with other artists: not always singing happy-go-lucky songs. It’s a great
debate. As musicians, is it our job to always make people feel good, happy and fun? Or is there a higher
responsibility? Especially in this day and age, I think it is much more important to help people address the things
in their life that they ignore, try to set aside and suppress. Let’s get into it. Let’s get real. Let’s not be ashamed. I
know that my job is to be a conduit. I know that music is not just fun, happy go-luck positivity…although of course,
it’s certainly a part of it. My job as the singer of this band is to reach out to people on a deep level and bring out
those suppressed emotions. This is mutual therapy of the greatest kind. Boom.
