HOW TO SURVIVE IN THE WOODS Music by HOW TO SURVIVE IN THE WOODS “Angeline” Photo credit: Josh Sikorsky Story by Tim Campbell Summer is upon us. For those in the music scene, it is a time to start showing off all the cool things they were doing during the long winter months. New songs, new concepts and technical musical growth will be on display as eager musicians show off the advances they made while the rest of world was in hibernation. For indie folk duo HOW TO SURVIVE IN THE WOODS, this summer is about the joys of getting back to basics. The band, comprised of MELISSA TERRY (vocals/mandolin) and CHASE DUNCAN (vocals/guitar), have a sound that fits perfectly next to a camp fire with the passionate swagger of a full on rockrager. Duncan has been a mainstay in the Central Ohio music scene for many years, displaying his immense guitar talents playing in bands ranging from punk to modern radio rock to death metal. All the while, he has been releasing solo efforts that combine blues, folk and Springsteen era rock n' roll. While working on the 2015 solo album “Florida Sessions”, he brought in Melissa Terry as a vocalist for the recording and subsequent shows. This proved to be such a successful tandem that How To Survive In The Woods was born. The band’s sound is frantic yet stripped down. Like many punk rockers turned acoustic folk troubadours, Duncan (who also plays for Ohio punk rockers THE SCRATCHES) brings energy and catchy hooks to his style of country picking. The vocal interplay between he and Terry fill things out to create a sound that is much bigger than you would think when you see the two unassuming musicians walk into a room. Terry's smooth yet powerful delivery take the songs to another level, creating a sense of longing that strikes an emotion chord to compliment the lyrical narrative. Since the group’s inception in late 2015, they have been working tirelessly to reach the masses. They are a constant fixture in the Central Ohio music scene and have toured the Midwest and east coast with fellow singer/songwriter RYAN KERR. Fans of CHUCK RAGAN and DAVE HAUSE should stay on the lookout for new music from How To Survive In The Woods later this year. From the back porch to the local dive, you'll be glad you made them part of your summer. Find How to Survive in the Woods at: https://www.facebook.com/survivethewoods
