Sometimes we are lucky enough to be in the company of a legend. DEBBIE HARRY and her five-piece ensemble, Blondie, came
to the SANDS BETHLEHEM EVENT CENTER July 10, 2015, and gave it their all. Coming off of a very emotional few weeks,
Harry, an outspoken advocate for GLBT rights, alluded to the monumental victory of marriage equality, a milestone birthday
and being inducted into the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME. She and the band, new and original members, were ready to
celebrate and the fans were happy to oblige.
Blondie, forming initially in 1974, pleased the crowd by playing all of the hits, some new tunes and throwing in some very
intriguing covers (BEASTIE BOYS? Yeah--and it sounded fantastic). The band, now consisting of Harry, CHRIS STEIN (original
guitarist and ex-boyfriend), CLEM BURKE (original drummer), LEIGH FOX (bass), MATT KATZ-BOHEN (keys) and TOMMY
KESSLER (guitar), brought an updated, heavier sound to the classics. Harry impressively rapped like the pro she is while
performing crowd-favorite, 7+ minute long “Rapture”. Donning a hot-pink mini-dress and platinum blonde wedge-cut wig,
she danced around the stage unlike any 70 year old I’ve ever seen and her voice…that voice…is still top-notch. This woman
has seen it all. She has done it all. And, she’s not finished.
