My first stop was Claymore Temple , the historical landmark where Dr . Martin Luther King preached — a fitting selection for the opening ceremonies of the IBC , considering the roots of the blues . And it was there that I first heard the soulful presentation by Sobo Blues Band and its members ASSAF GANZMAN ( vocals / bass ), DANIEL KRIMAN ( slide guitar / harmonica / back vocals ), and EDEN BAHAR ( drums / back vocals ). Their exceptional musicianship and winning personalities filled the temple !
I had the pleasure to catch their equally enthralling performance a few days later during the challenge , thus , it came as no surprise that this band from Israel advanced to the finals of the IBC . Although they did not capture the ultimate top honors , I would bet Elvis ’ s blue suede shoes that these three were NOT singing the blues . Instead , I am confident that this gracious band took home the cherished memories of all the sights and sounds of their time in Memphis and are reveling in the PRIZE that is the honor of being chosen to compete in such a prestigious event . For if there ’ s one thing I ’ ve learned about “ the blues ”… is that it breeds humility and LOVE . I felt it on Beale Street … and in the music of Sobo Blues Band .
