THE RACK DOLL is a female-fronted Rock band from Southwest Finland. The band was first formed when the singer MINNA
ORA and the guitarist KARI ORA played together acoustically as a duo called THE ACOUSTIC LADY. They performed together
later in a band called THE HURRIGANES. Now as The Rack Doll, they have released their debut album “Hot City” on May 15,
2015.
I particularly love the track “Tonite” which has a powerful opener and amazing energetic sound--which I personally enjoy! This
track delivers a good ass-kicking with its brilliant guitar work. Title track “Hot City” is also the opener of this album and
personifies true Rock n Roll in every way. Although only two minutes long—they are 120 seconds of pure power!
I also appreciate the track “Shanandoah”—an energetic song that calls to mind the Swedish stylings of bands such as ABBA,
THE POODLES and BAI BANG. This song will remain in your mind for a long time after the last notes have ended. Energy
positively pours out of the song called “Jailbait Stalemate” and the changing tempos and catchy melody of “I Can Do” make
for some riveting RAWK!
You will fall in love with the familiar track “Long Cool Woman (In a Black Dress)”, and will want to revisit this rendition again
and again—with its perceptible influences of bands such as ZZ TOP and DEEP PURPLE—coupled with Minna’s exceptional
vocals.
You want more? You’ve got it with the track “This Road Is Ending”--another example of The Rack Doll’s supreme musicianship.
The ballad “Pain in My Heart” is beautifully backed by acoustic guitar work. The instrumental piece “Riff Raff Song” is a
showcase for all the instruments in this band…gorgeous!
Worthy of mentioning (and listening) are also: “100 Miles Away”, with its Blue/Rock influences, the fun Rock song “Shorai
Shorai” with its in-your-face POWER, and “Game Is Over”—a feast for the mind and ears.
The music of The Rack Doll is definitely recommended for any Rocker’s library. The production level is great and every track is
solid base of Hard Rock and Rock 'N' Roll with undertones of Blues. The hard work that the band put into this album is evident.
It is hard to believe that “Hot City” is their debut album!
