I recently had the pleasure to sit down and chat with SILVERSEL for ION INDIE MAGAZINE… When was SILVERSEL founded? Where does the name “SILVERSEL” originate? Wally: SILVERSEL was founded approximately 6 years ago. Rick and Justin were in a band called SPLYNTR. They were playing a small music festival in a small town called Pembroke, GA. Coincidentally, I was playing the same festival. I was doing a solo acoustic set at that point and time. Rick came up after my slot and explained they were searching for a new lead singer. A week later, I received a call from Rick asking if I would like to open for MOLLY HATCHET with him and the band as their new front-man. I replied, “Of course!” We practiced for 2 days straight, played the gig, and the rest is history. Ricky: The name also comes from the Celtic Irish, meaning “One's Self”. George: Long story short, Wally's last name is “Silver”, and Rick's last name is “Saldano”. Obviously “Silversal” made no sense, so it changed to SILVERSEL instead. Please describe your music for our readers… Wally: Our music has been described in many ways. However, we see it as "Swamp Metal". We are a mixture of diverse musical backgrounds--from Southern Rock, Metal, Hard Rock, and even Country. When we write, it seems that all of those styles come together into one big melting pot. Which is where we get the term "Swamp Metal". Ricky: I would say that it is unique in its own way because you can pick up on several different genres. Justin: Our music has a unique flair to it. I can't say we sound like other bands, because we don't. We all have our own influences, such as Wally had a little BUDDY GUY Blues about some of his licks and such, while I may have some STEVIE RAY V AUGHAN or ROBING TROWER licks in mine. So put those 2 together and what comes out is SILVERSEL! David: We’ve got songs that’ll put you to sleep all the way up to making you want to speed down the highway. It’s crazy fun, and sure to please a wide array of fans!
