Nicolaus Copernikus Prepared by Andżelika Mazur He born in Toruń on February 19, 1473. A great Polish astronomer, creator of the theory of heliocentrism. He proved that Earth and planets revolve around the immobile Sun. Author of the work "De revolutionibus orbium coelestium" in which he described the heliocentric vision of the world. He observed from the sky observation that the Earth revolves around the Sun. It was a breakthrough discovery for the development of modern science. Previously, it was thought that other planets are circling the immobile land. Nicolaus Copernicus was a modern scholar and a courageous man seeking the truth about the universe. The work published in the print brought a new idea to the world. Nicolaus Copernicus ended his life on May 24, 1543. Aleksander Wolszczan Prepared by Kamil Rogowski He is a Polish astronomer. Professor of physical sciences, University teacher. He discovered the first extrasolar planets and pulsar planets together with Canadian Dale Flair. He was born on 29 April 1946 in Szczecinek. His early interest in astronomy was inspired by his father who told him stories and myths connected with stellar constellations. As as a seven-year-old he already learned the basics of astronomy. He observed the night sky using a small telescope he constructed himself. After graduation, Aleksander Wolszczan moved to Toruń to study astronomy at Nicolaus Copernicus University. In 1973 he went to length to Max-Planck-Institut für Radioastronomie in Bonn, the Institute with the large Arecibo satellite dish Effelsberg. In 1975 he received his doctorate in. At the beginning of the martial law in Poland, he again went to Bonn. He decided to travel to Cornell University. Published by him the test results led to the discovery of the first extrasolar planets around PSR 1257 + 12. In 1995 he was awarded The Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland. In the year 1976 was awarded the Young Polish Astronomical Society. In 1996, he was awarded the Beatrice M. Tinsley Prize by the American Astronomical Society, and in 1997 Polish President Aleksander Kwaśniewski presented him with the Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta for outstanding contributions to Polish science. In 1998 he was also on the list of 25 explorers of all time, published by the "Astronomy". He was recognized in 1999 by the "Nature" by the author of one of the 15 fundamental discoveries in the field of physics. Edwin Powell Hubble Prepared by Iza Duszkiewicz 32
