certainly not a pleasant moment , but luckily we have a really good electronics guy on the ship , Mark Preston , who managed to rewire the whole instrument which is now in perfect working order .
Aside from big , catastrophic ( at the time at least !) issues like this there are always small pieces of equipment that need eadjusting or replacing . Coming to sea with complex instruments like the ones in our lab is certainly the equivalent to a masters degree in troubleshooting !
