As this first experiment will use seawater collected in the Drake’ s Passage, we expect to encounter the nutrient-rich, but low biomass water typical of large areas of the Southern Ocean that lack the essential iron that is vital for phytoplankton growth. Hopefully, this will now all happen tomorrow instead.
For most people, today is an unexpected day off. And for some, the additional day is somewhat of a blessing, allowing further time to tweak instruments and methods, and get things working optimally before the first experiment really does start.
