Elephants are a major attraction in many places in the world . When we think of places like Africa , we picture elephants and other animals . Elephants play an important role in the circle of life . Because of the greed of poachers the elephant population is actually at risk . Despite a global CITES ban on international sales of ivory since 1990 , tens of thousands of elephants are killed to meet a growing demand for ivory products in the Far East .
South Africa ’ s “ Big Five ” main attractions . Two out of the five are endangered due to ivory trade .
