Zebra Mussels invested the great lakes of Michigan in 1988 and have stuck to every thing possible like sunken ships, coral, and logs and have reproduced to the hundred millions and produce a tan colored algae. Zebra mussels have invaded thirty nine different countries including parts of Asia Europe North America South America and Africa the were first found in Europe but people don’ t know how they got there or where exactly they came from. �

The Asian carp came to the United States in the 1960s
from Asia and were used as a management tool for aqua farms and sewage treatment plants. The Asian carp escaped into the Mississippi river and killed many aquatic animals in that area and have endangered many mussels and snails in the process. Current efforts are focused on keeping Asian carp out of the great lakes. �

Rock snot is an unsightly algae that collects in wavy sheets on rocks in New York waters. Rock snot aka Didymo is harming fish habitats and the flow of cold-water streams. Rock snot cells are microscopic so taking a ride on a flowing current and ending up on another surface that could be miles away can easily spread Rock snot. Rock snot has spread to four states in Canada, thirteen states in the United States, Chile and New Zealand.
