What is an Endangered Species?
What is an endangered species? An endangered species is mainly plants or animals in danger or at a high risk of becoming extinct due to a decrease in their population. They may be in danger due to habitat destruction, climate change, invasive species, or a change in population. Around 25 percent of mammals are in danger of becoming extinct. About one eighth of birds are endangered. About a third of amphibians and conifer trees are endangered. Around half of all reptiles and insects are becoming extinct, and 70 percent of flowering plants are endangered.
