J-GoodTech Brings 25 Japanese SME’s to Arlington
In September, representatives from 25 small and medium sized Japanese manufacturing companies came to the Sheraton
Arlington Hotel to meet with manufacturers within the region. The event was part of a program developed by the Japanese
Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry called J-GoodTech. The idea of the program is to help Japanese companies identify
potential customers, distribution partners, technology licensing opportunities, and other business partnerships outside of Japan.
Of course the program also results in strong connections, opportunities, and partnerships for American manufacturing companies.
As part of the J-GoodTech program, the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry selected the 25 companies among
many applicants to come to the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington area to meet with local manufacturers. While here, events were held
in Richardson and Arlington. In Arlington, the Japanese manufacturing companies had the opportunity to develop collaboration
opportunities with local manufacturers through one-on-one meetings and match-making sessions.
This was the first visit organized by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry as part of the J-GoodTech program. The Dallas-
Fort Worth-Arlington region was selected as the inaugural US destination largely due to the region’s strong economic connections
to Japan, such as the recent relocations of the North American headquarters of Toyota and Kubota, and its major international
airport that provides direct flights to Tokyo. Despite being J-GoodTech’s first visit, the Economic Development Office felt that the
program was a success and hopes that it will bring more Japanese companies to partner with Arlington manufacturers in the
future.
