Celebrate your successes,
that’s our topic for this month’s Invenio.
Do you ever celebrate your successes?
I have had my fair share of celebrating successes throughout my life, and I can look back on great celebrations of some major life moments: buying that gorgeous house that you’d always wanted, receiving a diploma after 4 years of hard work, landing that dream job… All happy memories of glorious moments when I felt very proud of myself and happy with my life! And the days after were usually equally happy, when you still feel that sense of accomplishment and run around smiling all day.
Many coaches and mentors, like I do, will ask their clients to consciously think about their successes. To take some time to reflect on what they have achieved, what went really well, and perhaps even log these in a journal on a regular basis. It helps our clients to train a more positive mindset overall, to build confidence and to focus on the good rather than on the bad. And we may add onto that how important it is to not just look at big moments, but to cherish our every day smaller accomplishments as well.
Yet, when I look back at the past year, I can only remember moments when I have celebrated other people’s achievements. I am always ready to congratulate people and cheer them on. But not one single moment of celebrating my own success jumps to mind. Clearly, I don’t practice what I preach!
And therefore, as we are moving towards the end of the year, I have made a promise to myself to carve out some time to reflect on the past year. To make a conscious effort to remember and jot down my own accomplishments, and celebrate these retrospectively. What have I achieved, what have I learned, which wonderful gifts has life thrown at me? And I will use the gained insights as part of this process to inspire me when I draft my New Year’s resolutions for next year.
I wish you all a wonderful time of reflection, and I hope this month’s Invenio will inspire you to do the same. Happy Holidays!
Warmest regards,
Denny
