ICAIS 2026: Global Aquatic Invasions Conference in Belfast | Page 44

The 24th International Conference on Aquatic Invasive Species is being held from Aug. 23 to 27, 2026 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The conference is hosted by Queen’s University Belfast alongside the Invasive Species Centre, Conference Secretariat.

The International Conference on Aquatic Invasive Species (ICAIS) is the most comprehensive international forum to address new and emerging issues related to aquatic invasive species (AIS) in freshwater, marine and estuarine environments.

The introduction, spread and establishment of aquatic invasive species in marine and freshwater environments

have had significant negative impacts both ecologically and socio-economically. ICAIS provides an international platform for the presentation of research to advance global action to limit the introduction and spread of AIS worldwide and serves as a catalyst for international collaboration on research and management projects.

(ICAIS)

Through knowledge sharing and networking, ICAIS connects those involved in science and policy with practitioners and industry professionals on the front lines of AIS prevention and management.

The theme for ICAIS 2026 will be Transcending Boundaries and will present a unique opportunity to engage with the most pressing issues surrounding aquatic invasive species that cross ecological, geographical, and political boundaries. Their rapid spread is not confined by borders—affecting both freshwater and marine environments, as well as terrestrial environments, on a global scale, and requiring innovative, cross-sectoral approaches to management, prevention, and restoration.

Further information, including opportunities for partnerships, are available on our website:
