Biological Invasions

INVASIONS BULLETINIssue 1 April 2025

Journals

Biological Invasions now has three Editors-in-Chief - Laura Meyerson, Evangelina Schwindt, and Mariano Rodriguez-Cabal.

The journal is pleased to announce two new article types: The First Records Collection and Management Innovations and Insights in Invasion Science.

The "First Records" Collection will build a comprehensive and reliable record of new species introductions across all ecosystems worldwide. However, authors are encouraged to move beyond simple occurrence records, offering deeper insights into the target species from multiple perspectives while maintaining the highest standards of taxonomic accuracy. This new collection will be curated by Dr. Alejandro Bortolus.

Biological Invasions has also introduced another new article type, Management Innovations and Insights in Invasion Science Collection. This new collection aims to advance the science and practice of invasive species management worldwide by activating, assessing, and amplifying evidence-based management strategies that remove and eradicate invasive species and restore ecosystems.

The Management Innovations and Insights in Invasion Science Collections aim to advance the science and practice of invasive species management worldwide by bridging the gap between ecological research and on-the-ground management of invasive species through original, high-quality research that informs practice and policy. They welcome contributions that detail the application and quantifiable outcomes of novel approaches to managing biological invasions and the key factors that contributed to management success or failure, or the implementation of established methods in new systems that meaningfully advance invasion science.

Also of interest are studies evaluating the effectiveness of prevention, early detection-rapid response efforts (EDRR), and management of pathways and vectors, including the role of participatory science or community volunteers in contributing to the success or failure of management interventions. This new collection will be curated by Dr. Jasmin Packer.

The journal also has other article types such as The Elton Reviews, Flashpoints, Alien Floras and Faunas led by Petr Pyšek, as well as collections on topics such as Protected Areas and The Economic Costs of Biological Invasions. A new special collection will be published soon on the outcomes from the recent IPBES Report on Invasive Alien Species.
