Examples of several of the different masks that Jade Ellis has made.
“It’s like a quadruple-edged
sword,” she said, noting that while
it’s not the same creatively. “it’s
good to be sewing.”
She also regrets that the shortage
of masks available creates a
situation where her efforts are
actually needed, not just a luxury.
“It’s really distressing to me that
we live in a first-world country that
can’t provide proper equipment
for our medical professionals when
they need it the most.”
Ellis is not selling the masks, just
donating them to those who put in a
request. So far, she’s made a couple
hundred masks and donated to a
home health organization and ER
nurse in Lexington.
She has also put out notice that if
anyone needs one for personal use,

she can provide it.
“Since then, I’ve been making a lot
just for individual people and their
families,” said Ellis, who noted that
Williams has likewise been making
masks to help those who need
them.
She said she’s “really grateful”
for everyone who’s supported
her cause and donated things
like fabric. She also encourages
anyone with a sewing machine to
chip in and start making masks as
well, using any number of patterns
available online.
“There’s lots of people making
them all over the country,” she said.
“I’m just one of many.”
Ellis may be humble, but in truth,
while she’s not the only one making
masks, only those who get them
from her can say they’re wearing a
