“I am proud of my kids for the kind of people
they are, and I am happy for them when they
have athletic achievements - so there is a
separation there,” Dave Fraley stated. “My kids
know athletics is something we do, it is not
who we are.”
“When they ask for advice, I give it,” Dave
Fraley said. “Other than that I am an encour-
ager and a supporter. Well, sometimes I give
advice before they ask, but not a lot. What I
do now is try to brag on each kid on the team
and encourage then. I wish I had did that more
when I was coaching.”
While John Fraley is the head coach of the
Pulaski County High School boys basketball
team, he admitted it was a little piece of ad-
vice his dad gave him and his players that has
turned out to be their team motto this season.
“At the beginning of the year he (Dave Fra-
ley) was talking to my team and me, and he
started this ‘Win the Day’ motto, and the kids
kind of grabbed hold of it,” John Fraley ex-
plained. “Winning the Day is just not winning
a game or winning practice, but its about mak-
ing up your bed, helping your mom out, being
a good citizen, or helping another kid in the
classroom. Throughout the year, my players
have come up to me talking about ‘Wining the
Day’ stories. That is great and then you find
yourself wondering what you can win at each
day.”
“That is just one of the many pieces of ad-
vice he has given me and my kids, but that one
really sticks out because the kids have really
taken to it,” John Fraley added.
Colton Fraley, 19, has taken seriously and
cherished every piece of advice given to him
by his grandfather, father and uncle.
