Burdine is known most perhaps
for her efforts and leadership at
Pulaski Library. However, her other
notable accomplishments include
becoming the first female presi-
dent for both the Somerset-Pulaski
County Chamber of Commerce and
Downtown Somerset Development
Corporation. Since then, both com-

munity organizations have chosen
several women as leaders.
“It was an incredible responsibil-
ity,” Burdine says. “It was at a time
in the 1980s when women were just
beginning to get accepted into lead-
ership positions.”
“I knew if I didn’t do a good job, it
might be a long time before another
woman would get the chance,” she
continues. “It was important to me
that my actions would ease the way
for any women coming after me.”
