legacy lives on in Pulaski

Libraries are important cor-
nerstones of a community. Their
services allow us to explore books,
conduct research, have a public
gathering place, and much more.
“When Somerset is looking to recruit

new doctors or business professionals
to our area, our library is usually one
of the destinations they bring them to,”
states Judy Burdine. “When people are
relocating, a lot of them still look at the
public library when considering what
all a community has to offer.”
Burdine was the former director of
Pulaski County Public Library (Pu-
laski Library). Though we remain a
small-sized rural town, she became
instrumental in spearheading the way
for downtown Somerset’s modern
and dazzling library making up
36,000 square feet. Its grand open-
ing happened in 2008.
March designates Women’s Histo-
ry Month.
