SPEDA not slowing down
through shutdown

COMMONWEALTH JOURNAL
Hope for the best, but plan for the
worst.
It’s what many should be doing,
and it’s what the Somerset-Pulaski
Economic Development Authority
(SPEDA) has tried to do, according
to President and CEO Chris Girdler.
“SPEDA is focused on building
a full, well, rounded economy,”
Girdler said – not just building
and developing the economy in
preparation for the “sunny days”
but for the gloomy ones as well.
It’s possible to see the current
gloominess – the COVID-19 crisis
and the nosedive of the country’s
economy – as a true test for the
brand-new economic development
entity.
SPEDA only celebrated its oneyear
anniversary in February.
