One consequence for LCRH was the difficult
decision in mid-April to place 17% of its workforce
on temporary leave (retaining some salary and full
benefits) while reducing hours for others.
“This situation affected team members who
had their function disrupted during the crisis,”
Parker said. “These team members are very
important to us; they’re part of our family at Lake
Cumberland.”
The hospital has been important to the
community as well, with various businesses
churches and donors showing their support with
lunches and prayer vigils along with the “Light It
Up” event organized by first responders on Good
Friday.
“The community has been incredibly
thoughtful,” Parker said. “We want to say thank to
everyone who pitched in and we feel very humbled
by the outpouring of support.”
It was the hospital’s goal to bring the employees
back within 60 days. Fast forward to June, three
months into the pandemic, and hospital officials
are working toward opening back up from the
lockdown. All but 40 or so employees are back to
normal schedules, and the remainder should be
back by mid-summer. But it’s not quite back to
business as usual.
