Hayes is just one of many medi-
cal professionals in our Lake Cum-
berland community battling on
the frontlines for us against heart
disease. She shares that working
with heart attack victims has both
its challenges and rewards. How-
ever, she finds her job fulfilling.
“It can be stressful because we
(the cardiac and Cath lab medical
team) all know how serious and
life-threatening a heart attack can
be,” Hayes says. “We just try to
stay calm and focused while doing
everything we possibly can for
saving a patient’s life and reverse
the damage of a heart attack.”
“I really enjoy being able to
talk and help educate our pa-
tients about how to take care of
themselves and their hearts,”
she continues. “It’s rewarding to
see someone get better, and you
were one of those responsible for
helping to make changes in their
lives.”
“Once EMS gets to you, they can
start life-saving treatment and
initiating care. They will also inform
us you are coming. If you are driving
someone you think is having a
heart attack to the ER, you should
call ahead and alert them“We will
activate our cardiac and Cath lab
team, and we will be waiting for
you .”
