I feel a great deal of wedding
photographers today have a style
they shoot in, and that’s them, that is
their brand—boxed in — or shall I say
“packaged nicely” and sold, “as is.” They
show up to each wedding they book
with their signature style and churn
them out robotically. Now, don’t get me
wrong, machines can create beautiful
products that consumers will pay very
good money for, but there is a huge
difference between that product, and
art that is created in the moment, just
for you.

What do clients need
to know about what
goes
into
wedding
photography that maybe
everyone doesn’t realize?
Ribeiro: The time a photographer
puts into a single wedding. You get one
shot at a wedding day, that’s it.
Sounds like a lot of pressure, and it
is...but the time a photographer has put
into learning their craft to know exactly
what to do in unexpected moments, the
time (and money) it has taken to build
up the needed gear to properly shoot
a wedding, the time meeting with and
planning out the event with the bride
and groom / wedding planner, the time
to go to the venue before the big day
and do test shots, the time you put in
after the wedding day downloading,
culling,
editing....editing....editing,
uploading, printing.
I think what most people see is a
photographer showing up for a few
hours one day and making thousands of
dollars, sounds like a sweet gig right ?!?
I wish more people understood what it
truly takes to capture so many incredible
moments on a wedding day, but this is
something artists have always struggled
with, when trying to convey what they
do to the public or potential clients.

You also offer boudoir
shots. Why do women
typically like to have
these shoots done, and
can it be empowering?
Ribeiro: I absolutely
offer Boudoir ! ...and out of all the
genres I shoot, boudoir is my favorite,
for the very reason you inquired ...
Empowerment!

You also asked “why women typically
like to have these shots done” I will say it
again ... Empowerment!
Although most women might
originally reach out to me for boudoir
photos under a broader umbrella of
various reasons, they will leave their
session fulfilled in the undisputed
underlying reason, which happens to be
the very definition of ... empowerment!
“The process of becoming stronger and
more confident, especially in controlling
one’s life and claiming one’s rights.”

For someone who
might be interested in
a boudoir session but
feels like they might be
uncomfortable, how do
you help them with that?
Ribeiro: This is one of the top three
compliments I get after boudoir
sessions from clients: “I know could not
have went to anyone else for these,
you made it really fun, and I felt sooooo
comfortable with you, thank you so
much, I needed this!”
I take a great deal of pride in this
aspect because, you can be the best
technical photographer in the world,
but if your client feels awkward or
nervous during these types of photos, it
will show. But more importantly, if that
happens and they leave that day feeling
those negative emotions, it completely
negates everything that a boudoir shoot
should be! I could go through my whole
process in detail, but honestly, this is
something you have to hear from past
clients. Anyone can talk themselves up
and tell you why they are good at what
they do, but I encourage anyone that is
interested or just wants to learn more
about the experience to contact any
woman that has had a boudoir session
with me for details. This way you hear
from real people, about what it’s really
like, then you can decide for yourself. It
might not be everyone’s cup of tea ... but
honey, if it is, you’re gonna leave with
yours overflowing!
