firearms sellers are experiencing the rush.
“It’s crazy; gun and ammo sales are through
the roof,” said Kristy Hall of Hall’s Pawn Shop
in Somerset. “I think people got worried when
things shut down, and got worried about the
uncertainty of times, what’s going to happen.”
Hall’s Pawn Shop is a family-owned business
that started with Jerry Hall almost 40 years
ago. Though he’s retired now, his family
has kept the business going, including his
daughter Hall.
“It’s kind of comical because a guy who’s
done business with Dad since he opened still
comes in here and says (to me), ‘I knew you
when you could barely walk,’” said Hall.
In addition to unrest caused by the COVID-19
situation, the resulting stimulus checks
received by Americans resulted in extra
spending money for many, which went to new
gun purchases -- and purchases by new gun
owners.
“We have sold guns to a lot of women that
would never think to own a gun,” said Hall. “I
sold two guns to girls who I know, I’m telling
you, never would have bought a gun, didn’t
see any need in it, and now (thought) they’d
better get a gun.”
