InTouch with Southern Kentucky April 2020 | Page 5

FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK By Jeff Neal T hese are strange days, indeed. SUBMITTED A look at some of our stories in this issue. Most of our lives have been affected by the coronavirus, which reared its ugly head in the United States weeks ago and is spreading throughout the country. As I write this column, it isn’t in Pulaski County — yet. We can only hope and pray it stays that way. In the mean time, I hope that this issue of In Touch with Southern Kentucky magazine offers a brief respite from coronavirus coverage. We have a wonderful piece on our iconic Center for Rural Development from Ray Hunter. The Center opened in 1992, a dream-child of Congressman Hal Rogers. Almost three decades later, it’s hard to imagine our community without the Center — a palace that has become a meeting place, a venue for entertainment and a major cog in our region’s business and industry efforts. We have a piece from Tim Minton on the courageous David Beshears, who is living with Parkinson’s disease. We take a look at families dealing with autism. April is Autism Awareness Month. As we struggle to make our way through the coronavirus dilemma, let’s all remember to follow recommendations set forth by our elected leaders and the Center for Disease Control. Let’s not take any chances with our health — our the health of people we love who might be more susceptible to this virus. JEFF NEAL is the Editor of the Commonwealth Journal and In Touch magazine.
