A
yurveda or the Vedic Science
of life and wellbeing has been
a traditional secret of ancient
India for thousands of years.Th e secret
of this science has been used to nurture
and heal both humans and animals. Th is
Vedic information and knowledge has
been passed on to us by our forefathers,
and even to this day, most Indians prefer
to treat themselves, their pets and their
livestock, with traditional Ayurvedic
preparations. Th e assurance that Ayurveda
is safe and has no side eff ects is instilled
in us from childhood. Across the world,
people have realized that although most
allopathic medicines can cure diseases,
they have many undesirable side eff ects.
Hailing from a family of animal lovers,
Yashodhara had always been interested in
the wellbeing of pets. Th eir health was of
prime importance to her. Most of her pets
during childhood were homeless strays,
and sick animals oft en abandoned by their
owners. She adopted and gave shelter to
many even at that tender age. Since these
animals had been living in unhealthy and
unclean conditions and were subjected to
a harsh and cruel life, they suff ered from
various ailments including conjunctivitis,
scabies, dermatitis, fungal infections,
severe bites and wounds, and tick and fl ea
infestations.
In most traditional Indian families,
the children are involved in almost all
household activities and carefully observe
their parents. Yashodhara used to watch
her mother very closely and assisted her in
treating those animals who suff ered from
the most critical diseases with ayurvedic
remedies.

Th ese ayurvedic medications were
prepared using diff erent herbs grown in
her mother’s backyard. Yashodhara was
in absolute awe of the magical eff ect of
these remedies. She was curious to know
what they contained and how they were
concocted.
Diff erent roots, herbs, fl owers and fruits
combined in diff erent ways, in specifi c
sequences, were used to cure fever,
stomach pain and acidity, body pains,
the common cold and cough, and cuts
and abrasions. Some of these ayurvedic
ingredients were used for cleansing and
conditioning of hair. Massage oils had
magical powers that relieved body pain
and stress. Th ey were used to calm the
minds of young children and either put
them to blissful sleep at night or kept
them active and awake during their
examination days.
Yashodhara’s mother did not feel the
necessity to use allopathic medicines.
