Door & Trim handles the trim work on roughly 5,000 homes per year in the Phoenix area, using softwoods from Russia and China to complement its use of domestic ponderosa and sugar pine. The company does all the trim work, installing doors, shelving and all the mouldings: crowns, casings and architectural millwork. The company says it likes using imported paint-grade softwood because its tight grain is similar to fir or ponderosa pine – it sands nicely, looks cleaner and has minimal grain raise. Younger Bros. does use some radiata pine as well, brought in primed and ready to paint. Using imported species is the only way the company says it can operate competitively in its market – homes from $150,000 to $1.5 million – avoiding the volatile price and supply issues related to IW domestic species. • Responsible Management of Natural Resources For more information call one of our U.S. offices today.
