International Tutors' Magazine February 2019 | Page 9
It was the dawn of a new year when
International Tutor Gabriel Franchi created
a call for volunteers to aid in the making
of CLE’s first ever Talent Show! Seeing the
opportunity as a way for me to broaden
my horizons and create new memories,
I jumped at the chance and answered the
message alongside fellow students Hsu
Wut Yee Win and Christopher
Lai. Little did I know that
I was signing up for an
unforgettable experience.
to coordinate with the technical staff, and
lastly, Gabriel was defaulted into being the
Adult™ and dealing with all administrative,
graphic, and technology based tasks.
The first step of many, of course, was to
recruit talented and willing performers.
Being advertised as a cultural talent show,
the floor was open to all those
who wanted to display
their super abilities to
present their heritage,
or even just their own
perspective and talent
as part of a larger youth
culture. Next, the OC sat
together to draft the most attractive poster
with enough information to attract a large
audience. These posters were put up across
campus, with a one week deadline to be
part of the show! Soon enough, we had
eight acts with sixteen performers signed
up and itching to perform for their peers
and the CLE community! Acts included
singers, musicians, dancers - both classical
and modern, but all very talented and eager.
I was
signing up for
an unforgettable
experience.
Hsu, Chris and I were
recruited to be Student
Organisers of the Organising
Committee (OC), supervised by Gabriel. In
our first meeting at the ASLLC, we agreed
on the idea of the Talent Show and doubled
down to work together as the World’s Best
Organising Quartet. Each of us chose
an arena of expertise, something which
we were the most confident in; Hsu was
responsible for decorations and aesthetics,
I was responsible for performers and
creative output, Chris took it upon himself
