We welcome students who have the potential to complete their course and contribute to university life , regardless of age , background or financial circumstances . We treat every application fairly in accordance with our admissions policy .
Please note
• Part-time study at postgraduate level is permitted on the Student Route visa . The restrictions for part-time study on this visa are : no dependants ; no work ; no work placements .
• Some courses may require a Disclosure and Barring Service ( DBS ) check , and / or occupational health screening . Please check with the department if an approved alternative is accepted .
• Some of our courses are only offered to practising UK professionals . Where this is the case , it will be indicated on the course page on our website .
• Please check the website for details of entry requirements for individual courses .
• Some courses may require an ATAS ( Academic Technology Approval Scheme ) certificate – this will be stated in the conditions of your offer .
• Some of our courses require an interview . These can be conducted online if you are unable to attend in person .

General entry requirements
For undergraduate study , we will normally expect you to have the equivalent of two to three A levels in appropriate subjects . Please check the course pages on our website for specific entry requirements . We also normally require a minimum of three GCSE passes or equivalent in subjects other than those offered at A level . GCSE passes relate to grades C / 4 and above . GCSE English and Mathematics are also normally required .
For postgraduate study , entry requirements will depend on your chosen course . Please visit our website for course-specific entry requirements .
English language requirements
If your first language is not English , the minimum English language proficiency level for undergraduates ranges from IELTS band 6.0 overall with no component score below 5.5 , to band 6.5 overall with no component score below 6.0 or equivalent , or GCSE / IGCSE English Language minimum grade C / 4 . For most of our Master ’ s degrees , you need a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 – 7.0 , with no component below 6.0 . Some courses and PhDs require higher scores .

Please note , the UK Visas and Immigration Office regularly make changes to the immigration rules and requirements , so there may be changes to our requirements after this guide is published .

The range of qualifications that can be taken is so large that we do not print all individual qualification requirements , but you can find these on our website or the UCAS website .

Application deadline guidance
• UCAS applications – typically 15 January . International applications received after this date will still be considered , but we cannot guarantee that places will be available .
• UCAS applications received from 30 June will automatically be entered into the UCAS Clearing scheme .
• Direct applications for undergraduate and postgraduate courses are considered all year round – but certain courses will have application deadlines to adhere to . Please contact international . admissions @ port . ac . uk for course-specific deadlines .
• University Pre-Sessional English courses – deadlines for applications to these courses are typically two weeks before the start of the course . For more information , please see page 23 or contact pse @ port . ac . uk .
We advise you to apply as early as possible in order to have sufficient time to apply for a student visa .
