All pre-sessional students studying on campus can book a room in our halls of residence during their programme . We offer private rooms with shared facilities and free bedding . You will also get an equipment pack which is yours to keep . Additional fees apply .

English language requirements and support

English language requirements
All our courses are delivered in English . To complete your course , you will need a sufficient level of English to take part in classes and discussions , and to produce assessed writing such as coursework and examinations .
You need to demonstrate your English language level by taking an approved English language test and sending us your results . Different courses need different levels of English , usually measured on the International English Language Test System ( IELTS ), although we also accept other tests .

Foundation courses If you are interested in a foundation or pathway course , you need a minimum of IELTS band 5.5 , with no component below 5.5 .
Undergraduate courses For most of our undergraduate courses , you need a minimum of IELTS band 6.0 , with no component below 5.5 . Some courses , especially those with a high level of discussion and writing , require higher scores . You can see course-specific details on the individual course webpages .
Postgraduate courses For most of our Master ’ s degrees , you need a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 – 7.0 , with no component below 6.0 . Some courses and PhDs require higher scores . You can see course-specific details on the individual course webpages .
Pre-Sessional English language courses
Whether you need to improve your English before starting your degree or just practise your language skills , apply to study one of our Pre-Sessional English ( PSE ) language courses either online or on campus .
PSE programmes
You will get dedicated support and advice from experienced academic staff , International Student Advisers and Learning Development Tutors . You will study for 25 hours a week , Monday to Friday , in classes of no more than 14 people . You will have the same tutor throughout your programme .
These courses are available to you if you :
• hold a conditional offer for one of our degree courses , but have not yet met the English language entry requirement
• have met the academic conditions and the English language entry requirement , but you want to do a refresher course in English
Available PSE programmes for 2022
We offer a range of programmes for students who need to improve their English to enter their degree programme . These vary from 6 – 20 weeks in length . There is also a 4-week programme for students who have met the English language requirements for their course but want to practise their English . All programmes are available online and on campus .

In-Sessional English
