Michelin employs the Life Cycle Assessment ( LCA ) methodology , in accordance with the ISO
14040-44 , to evaluate the environmental impacts of its products across their lifespan – from raw material extraction to shipping and logistics to end-of-life tyre treatment . The insights gathered drive advancements in product design , including modifications and technologies to boost productivity and improve energy efficiency without compromising tyre performance , Michelin says .

An example is the tyre pressure monitoring system – MICHELIN MEMS 4 – to monitor the temperature and pressure of mining tyres remotely and in real time to help mines boost fleet performance and safety . MEMS was first introduced in 2006 and was the mining industry ’ s first tyre pressure monitoring system . Now , in its fourth generation , MICHELIN MEMS 4 tracks tyres and provides fleet data to mines worldwide and is the only monitoring system on the market that , by design , retains historical tyre pressure and GPS tracking by tyre , according to the company . Michelin also offers Consulting & Services , which uses data and the company ’ s experts to uncover customised solutions tailored to a mine site that help improve mine safety , decrease vehicle downtime , increase productivity and more .
Michelin also extended its portfolio in the last decade to include Fenner Conveyors , Fenner Precision Polymers and Klinge , which will be represented in the space at MINExpo . solutions to the mining industry in September .
The company ’ s offering includes conveyor belt systems , repair services , suspension components , industrial and hydraulic hose lines , drive belts , vehicle electronics , displays and terrain-optimised tyres . Its full-service capabilities include planning and commissioning , technical advice , training , digital monitoring and on-site maintenance for the life of the conveyor operation .
