MINEXPO PREVIEW
greenhouse gas emissions , while improving productivity .
At the show , the company is planning to feature the next generation of railcar movers , the Shuttlewagon Commander NXT , which Wabtec launched earlier this year . The Commander NXT series debuts with four dynamic models , offering tractive efforts ranging from 26,000 lb ( 11.8 t ) to 41,300 lb . This new railcar mover also features the patented ShuttleLaunch technology , a cutting-edge solution specifically engineered to optimise tractive effort , substantially reduce wheel slipping and extend tyre life , marking a notable advancement in the industry , Wabtec says . In addition to the NXT series , the Shuttlewagon also offers the first and only allelectric , lithium-ion mobile railcar mover , the company claims .
Revolutionising mine safety is another high priority . Wabtec ’ s Digital Mine solutions will be on display , including its next generation Collision Avoidance System ( CAS ) and Drill Guidance Solutions ( DGS ) that help mines detect and avoid potential hazards in real time .
Along with providing cable reels and slip rings to handle power and data transfer needs , Wabtec has over 90 years of heat transfer experience . With L & M Radiator now part of the Wabtec family , it is offering Mesabi products as part of its engine cooling systems portfolio . At the show , the company will also discuss its rail and marine offerings , including FLXdrive , the world ’ s first heavy-haul , 100 % battery-electric locomotive .
Battery charging
At MINExpo 2024 , Cavotec will unveil innovative solutions that , it says , are driving the decarbonisation of mining operations worldwide .
A key highlight at its booth will be the Megawatt Charging System ( MCS ), a cuttingedge solution providing up to 4.5 MW of charging power for battery-powered mining trucks ’ and equipment . The MCS is designed to significantly reduce charging times , enabling more efficient use of battery-powered equipment . At MINExpo , a manual MCS connector will be featured , offering attendees an opportunity to see and interact with this technology in person .
In addition to the MCS , Cavotec will showcase a suite of advanced solutions that enhance operational efficiency and safety . Its radio remote controls provide operators with the ability to manage equipment from a safe distance , reducing the risk of accidents and improving overall site safety . The human operator interfaces are intuitive and designed to enhance user experience , making it easier to manage complex mining tasks with precision and ease . Reliable connectors and power units ensure consistent and efficient power supply to mining equipment , minimising downtime and maximising productivity . Furthermore , motorised cable reels will be showcased , which are engineered to provide robust and flexible power solutions , ensuring seamless operation even in the most demanding mining environments .
OTR tyres
BKT says it is taking its flagship products for the mining industry ’ s most demanding operations to MINExpo 2024 , with its stand highlighting the company ’ s wide selection of tyres and the latest innovations for this industry .
An important area of BKT ’ s booth will be reserved for tyres from the EARTHMAX range , designed to meet the diverse application needs of machinery such as scrapers , dumpers , loaders , dozers and others .
First up is EARTHMAX SR 32 , a non-directional wide-base radial tyre , which is particularly suitable for scrapers and comes with a robust “ All Steel ” casing , as well as a special compound – both elements ensuring strength and durability . This tyre also excels in traction and flotation properties during heavy-duty operations , BKT says .
For articulated or low-profile dump trucks , dozers and loaders operating in loading , transport and levelling operations , BKT offers the EARTHMAX SR 41 , the All Steel radial tyre providing “ extraordinary ” puncture resistance and durability . In addition to many operating hours without downtime , this tyre ensures superior comfort , the company adds .
Rounding out BKT ’ s showcase at MINExpo will be EARTHMAX SR 468 , EARTHMAX SR 51 and EARTHMAX SR 53 .
The first is designed for rigid haul trucks and features a unique tread design made of a special compound , turning this tyre into the perfect solution for digging operations on hard , rocky and rough terrain , BKT says . Its strong square

shoulder facilitates the ejection of single stones to protect the tyre from potential damage . The EARTHMAX SR 468 includes BKT ’ s most advanced technology and is specifically developed to carry heavy loads , BKT says . It provides extraordinary resistance to rock cuts and punctures , ensuring a longer tyre life , BKT added .
The EARTHMAX SR 51 has been developed for loaders and dozers employed in applications requiring additional cut resistance , sidewall protection and exceptional traction , BKT explains .
Finally , the EARTHMAX SR 53 is the solution for loaders , dozers and low-profile dump trucks operating in underground mines . The deep L-5 tread and cut-resistant compound stand for an extended life , as well as great traction and stability , according to BKT .
Michelin has been viewed as a technological leader in the mining industry as far back as 1959 with the introduction of the first radial earthmover tyre and then , in 1995 , with the launch of the industry ’ s first 63 in tyre .
Just last year , Michelin introduced the industry ’ s first radial tyre for the world ’ s largest wheel loader , the 70 / 70R57 MICHELIN X MINE L4 ** tyre for the Komatsu WE2350 / P & H L2350 . Weighing 14,000 Ib ( 6,350 kg ), this tyre stands 13 ft ( 4 m ) tall with a tread width of nearly 6 ft .
Michelin says it has openly expressed its commitment to help the mining industry transform to a more sustainable future .
“ While it may seem counter intuitive , tyres play an important role in helping mines reduce their environmental impact ,” the company says . “ Both tyre design and the proper use of tyres
