Whales and Dolphins are a new attraction for The Picos de Europa, summer visitors can enjoy the thrill of cetacean watching on the ferries that run from Portsmouth and Plymouth to Santander and Bilbao on the Cantabrian coast. Little was known about whales and dolphins in the Bay of Biscay until only very recently. Brittany Ferries now host wildlife surveys of these waters, along with U.K. charity Orca. Pods of Common, Striped and Bottlenose dolphins are sighted regularly surfing the ships’ wakes, as well as the blows and dorsal fins of Minke, Pilot and Fin whales, the second largest whale on the planet.
